You will want to get the total square foot of the area you are trying to fill with stone. This is the length times the width= square foot

Then you will want to know how thick you want to install normally between 3″ – 4″ is ideal. You will need to convert this over to inches from feet. so you divide the total inches you want to use by 12. example 3 inches deep divided by 12 = 0.25

You will then use this equation to figure it out –

Total Square foot x depth(0.25(3 inches)) divided by 27 = yards needed, and we always round up to the nearest yard

Example we have 600 total square feet needed to cover at 3 inches deep

600 x 0.25= 150 / 27 = 5.55 rounding up = 6 yards needed to complete this project.

If you are wanting to figure out tons, you will then take the total 5.55 and multiply by 1.27 which will = 7.05 tons
